5pm
<br>Where: 205 Johnston Street Fitzroy&nbsp;
<p>Wild Thing, Nicola Loder
<br>Wild Thing uses digital imaging techniques to explore ideas about Australian
identity, juxtaposing rural landscape scenes with urban tourist sites,
sheep with human hordes. Commenting on the relationship between photography,
painting and new media, Loder creates images that are part fact, part fiction.&nbsp;
<p>The Neighbour's House, Bronwyn Coupe&nbsp;
<br>Objects, events, emotions and daydreams - all equally real - inhabit
the place of childhood. The Neighbour's House is based on the childhood
home of composer Mary Anne Slavich. Coupe invites the audience to participate
in making the work - 'building' the house through sound and video.&nbsp;
<p>After the War, Darran McCrann
<br>After the war is a collection of photographic images and mutant objects.
The central theme explores a mindscape, post trauma. The photographs depict
strange phenomena that interrupt a solo journey through an unpredictable
environment. At the core of the work are themes of helplessness and hope.
<p>Information Narrative, Joyce Rudinsky
<br>An interactive digital art project, Information Narrative consists
of three stories collaged from found mass media material: from newspapers,
magazines, radio, television and the Internet. Its various digressions
mimic a sense of the 'information overload' currently affecting Western
society.&nbsp;

tell. Meet brave women, unions, larrikins, brass bands, mine managers,
vast mountain ranges, bush fires and bare hills. Statues whisper to us
and kids take us up alleys or to the Mall. It’s poetic, whimsical, warts-and-all!

<p><b>21. Hobart, The Levitation Grounds: Joyce Hinterding and David Haines</b>
<br>Where: Contemporary Art Services Tasmania, Tasma Street, North Hobart
<br>When: 15 March ? 27 April, Wed-Sun 12 noon ? 5pm
<p>The idea of levitation is part of the tradition of the uncanny. The
Levitation Grounds explores this concept as part of the quieter, spookier
underside of the power of Nature. Through a residency at a remote lighthouse
on Bruny Island, media artists Joyce Hinterding and David Haines have tapped
into these aspects of nature. Using video, video animation, soundscape
and captured satellite signals, Haines and Hinterding take us into a strange
and powerful world where the familiar is strange and the strange somehow
eerily familiar.

<p><b>22. Tasmania, Far Flung Flicks</b>
<br>Where: Various Locations around Tasmania
<br>When: 31 March to 11 April
<p>An entertaining and inspiring program of short films from Tasmania and
New Zealand, this program includes dramas, documentaries and comedies each
in their own way exploring
<br>islands real and metaphorical as well as isolation and its impact.
A highlight of the program is De Witt Island 7001, Ella Kennedy’s documentary
about a woman returning to a windswept Tasmanian island where, as a young
woman, she sought refuge. Cow, directed by Michael Bennett and The Platform,
directed by Robin Walters are recent works from New Zealand, and Circus
Girl by Snug Films is a Tasmanian SBSI and Screen Tasmania commission.
The screwball cartoons of internationally renowned, Hobart-based Blue Rocket
Productions will pepper the evening with colourful zany characters. A mixed
bag with a few surprises ensures a really great night for many far-flung
locations in Tasmania.

<p><b>4. CALL FOR PROPOSALS: "Out of the Box [Net.Art and the 'Real World']"</b>
<br>Deadline:&nbsp; 1 April 2003
<p>No longer content with pure formalism and self-referentiality, and unwilling
to be dismissed into the simple category of "graphic design", net.art is
redefining itself in the realm of social critique and commentary. The old
elements of hyperlink, the embedded images and sounds, the database and
the live stream all remain in place, as do the digital pranks, parasitic
spoofs and deliberate 'errors' which gave early net.art its timeliness
and humour. Their scope, however, has been refocussed and their use redefined
in recent years to a razor-sharp critique of technological "progress",
globalisation, and the ever-present machinery of surveillance and control
which the internet has helped to usher in.
<p>Impakt will commission two projects for this theme. The accepted commissions
for this project will be invited to produce a hybrid project involving
a website and a live, "real-world" intervention [performance, action, prank,
interface, etc] which will take place during the Impakt Festival this coming
spring, between June 3 and 10. Depending on the submissions we receive,
we may invite the accepted artists to collaborate on a single project.

General Consulate in partnership with Le Fresnoy, Studio National Des Arts
Contemporains, in France.

Questions Asked</b>
<br>Deadline: 20 April 2003
<p>In recent years, there has been an explosion of interest in reusable

shared.
<p>However, the development and deployment of learning objects also presents
new challenges to designers of instruction and technology alike. To explore
the benefits and challenges of learning objects, a one-day symposium on
the theme of Learning Objects will be held on June 24, the day prior to
the start of the ED-MEDIA 2003 in Honolulu, Hawaii.&nbsp;
