Experimenta Under the Radar:: UK tour
Experimenta=92s new touring exhibition, Experimenta Under the Radar, invites
UK audiences to experience and interact with the best of Australian Media
Art at FACT, Liverpool and the ICA, London.
Opening at FACT on 16 June, Experimenta Under the Radar is an exhibition of
innovative interactive media and video artworks by some of Australia=92s
leading contemporary artists. The unprecedented scale and calibre of the
works makes this tour to two of the UK=92s most prestigious media arts venues

New Visions Commissions 2006
For our major 2007 exhibition Experimenta Playground, we are commissioning
new interactive works that allow the audience to play, and be played upon.
Up to $6,000 per project is available for emerging and mid-career Australia=
n
artists to create new interactive media art works for an exhibition of
Australian and international media artworks to be launched in Melbourne in
September 2007.

LOST BOYS OF SUDAN FUNDRAISER SCREENING
As part of the Emerge Festival, Multicultural Arts Victoria is offering 5
double passes to Experimenta members to attend the LOST BOYS OF SUDAN
FUNDRAISER SCREENING.
Friday 23 June, 7.30 =96 10.30pm,
Fitzroy Town Hall, 201 Napier Street, Fitzroy
This feature-length documentary follows two Sudanese refugees on an
extraordinary journey from Africa to America. Orphaned as young boys in one
of Africa's cruellest civil wars, they survive lion attacks and militia
gunfire to reach a refugee camp in Kenya along with thousands of other
children. From there, remarkably they are chosen to go to America where the=
y
find themselves confronted with the abundance and alienation of contemporar=
y
American suburbia.=20
Also on the night Q & A session with Sudanese community leader Zachariah Bu=

Dhieu and performance by Sudanese singer Ajak Kwai.

1:: SYDNEY - Alien Presence H - [handmade echo] =96 New collaborative work by
Daniel Kojta

The title ALIEN PRESENCE H - [HANDMADE ECHO] continues the series by Daniel
H Kojta and refers to a monologue which dictates a theory of perception.
This work is comprised of a series of eleven video works directed in
composition by Kojta and shot by eleven International artists. Each artist
was given the instruction to shoot with the horizon line at a common
measured height, and each had their time zone coordinated to initiate the
shoot at the same moment in time across the eleven time zones =96 from Denmar=
k
to America. The common horizon line will link all works in physical and
temporal topography in time.

3:: MELBOURNE- Hearing the Hydra- audio visual performance

Ros Bandt and Brigid Burke are two internationally acclaimed artists. Sound
Artist and composer Ros Bandt and composer, clarinettist and visual artist
Brigid Burke will uncover and interpret the historically rich archaeologica=
l
elements of Footscray Arts=92 Hydra Studio through sound and visuals. Once
part of a factory where air filters were made for FJ Holdens, this artist=92s
studio has a view of the city skyline and Maribyrnong river and a sonic
landscape of passing trucks, trains and artists. Performing as Carte
Blanche: Place of Possibilities, Ros and Brigid (featuring sound assistance
from Angie Grant) will combine ambient onsite recordings with live
electro-acoustic music and visuals to interpret and rediscover the Hydra
Studio. Come early for refreshments (cheese and wine), and stay after the
performance to chat with the artists.

The works in Art Movement are linked by the artists=92 perceptions and
representations of this perpetual motion. New and recent works by Tom Bai,
Tom Burless, Daniel Crooks, m3architecture, Robert Puloe, Sarah Ryan and
John Tonkin conceptualise actual and impossible physical movement. Video
lenticular photography, sculpture, interactivity and architecture examine
contemporary states of constant flux.

7:: PERTH -CyberGames and Interactive Entertainment Conference =96 call for
papers

CGIE2006 is the joint conference of the Third Australasian Conference on
Interactive Entertainment (IE 2006) and Cybergames 2006: International
Conference and Exhibition on Games Research and Development. The
'game-art-interface' special session at CGIE2006 will explore the
intersection of art theory and practice with game design. Submissions are
invited that challenge the past, present and future of game aesthetics and
interface. Topics do not need to specifically address games, so long as the=

can be notionally connected.
Submissions: Accepted papers will be published in the proceedings. Please
submit paper in PDF format, 8 pages maximum. Paper format should follow the

Gertrude Contemporary Art Spaces and Express Media present an opportunity
for emerging visual arts writers to develop their writing practice, publish

13:: ADELAIDE - High Definition Workshop for DOPs and Cinematographers

A joint event between AFTRS and the SA Branch of ACS, financially sponsored
by the SA Film Corporation.
This one-day workshop is designed for practising camera operators and DOPs.
The workshop will provide an overview of professional HD camera technology
and comparisons of the different formats available.  Through hands-on
exercises the workshop will provide the opportunity to shoot and analyse
various HD and SD cameras in real situations and compare the differences.
Other topics to be covered include set-up menus, choice of lenses, critical
focus, filters, etc.  The workshop will also allow participants to view the
images on a state of the art 1080x1920 high definition projector.

Cameras will include high end Sony HDCam and XDCam HD, as well as a SD Digi
Beta 790 and HDV format camcorders.

Titled UnAustralian the conference will feature both refereed and
non-refereed twenty minute papers, and an exhibition of creative on-line
works curated by Stephen Barrass. Professor Jacques Ranci=E8re, author of
Disagreement, will deliver the keynote address in the Australian Parliament
House. Confirmed Australasian keynotes include Professor Larissa Behrendt,
Professor John Frow and Associate Professor Catharine Lumby. Professor
Ranci=E8re=92s address will be followed by a cocktail party in the marble foyer
of Parliament House. Other venues include the University of Canberra, and

The XPERIMENTAL film festival continues its success for a fifth time on the
24th of November 2006, showcasing creators of all kinds who have chosen to
express themselves through film and animation. This is the second year that
we are calling for applications from international creative people of all
kinds: professionals, students and curious creators.
The festival aims to celebrate the art of film and animation rather than it=
s
traditional narrative form. The participants of the XPERIMENTAL festival
have each developed their own unique style producing an atmospheric result
either technically, visually, or conceptually.

here, remarkably they are chosen to go to America where they find themselves=

The title ALIEN PRESENCE H - [HANDMADE ECHO] continues the series by Daniel=
 H Kojta and refers to a monologue which dictates a theory of perception. Th=
is work is comprised of a series of eleven video works directed in compositi=
on by Kojta and shot by eleven International artists. Each artist was given =
the instruction to shoot with the horizon line at a common measured height, =
and each had their time zone coordinated to initiate the shoot at the same m=
oment in time across the eleven time zones &#8211; from Denmark to America. =
The common horizon line will link all works in physical and temporal topogra=
phy in time.<BR>
